Are we Buyers, Sellers, or Holders?

Page 1 of 2Next

As the stakes season starts to sunset, and our beloved two year olds head to the field, what is an owner to do?

I'm a holder.  And a bit of a gatherer.  I purchased a second share of Fireandshine when a share was recently posted for $300 CAD.  I couldn't resist.

Maybe I'll be a buyer in the Spring.

Right now I have no desire to sell.

What's your strategy at this time of the year?

Holder like you and the NY gang.   Good thing that AMac is a shrewd mover of stock, because we would probably buy and hold ourselves into insolvency.  My wife keeps me in check in regards to the “gatherer”  part.

Good luck to Fancy tonight.  Are you going out to Yonkers to watch?  How about the Breeders Crown?

Inform “C” that Casanova Hall has gone 3rd, 2nd, and 1st since I put the ‘Twitter’ label on him. đŸ„ł

I will be holding. I have never sold personally. ( I really should have a few times) I have not purchased any babies yet, tempted. Might look for clearance sales on other than yearlings. Budget a bit tight now and the training fees add up during the winter months. If some of my horses do start racing in the winter, might give me an excuse to but a couple more.

We were there.  Megan Scran was not.  Though I am sure the result would have been the same.

I maintained positivity as we had our saver, Luvin Affection coming up 20 minutes later.  I thought she was in a great spot... easily second best on paper.   The 1/5 fav, Rankin, looked just that behind the gate, so I implored AMac to line up behind the two.  We didn't get away great, Rankin proved just that and jumped it off... then, showing that we were a team player, we jumped it off too.  Rankin made a bold comeback.  We did not.

Late night video update on both indicates that I'm Fancy Like will be shipped back to Ohio (so much for the Yonkers being a layover), and Luvin Affection had equipment issues.

It is an up and down ride for sure, but you guys keep a healthy perspective.

Trouble with my I Pad.  Sorry for the clutter on previous message.  Asking Maywood Al if he has any ownership in the Illinois 2 year olds and how close he is to Hawthorne.  AMac reiterated that he is flying out to Illinois on Sunday to drive them.

Trying to sell Lilly and Freedom Hill, that's not why I'm posting. Interesting story about Amac and Lawmaker in the Hambo a few years ago on Horseplop. Not your usual race bigoted Horseplop tale. From a guy who had shares in Lawmaker. And what was happening at the time and how Dave Miller ended up driving and breaking Lawmaker in the Hambo Elims. And repercussions afterwards.

Who do you guys think should drive Mori? Amac who's trained him and knows him well or Dexter Dunn who catch drives horses at a world class level for a living. I lean Dexter. I think Amac on the Ohio circuit is equal or better than a lot of those guys. This race isn't the Ohio circuit it's the Breeders Crown with the best drivers in the world there. I have no shares of Mori and wish Mori and Amac well.

Interesting post, worth the read if you're a Stable client.

Dexter is driving in that race, apologies. But it still leaves the afore mentioned Dave Miller, Timmy T, and the McCarthy brothers.

I have an open offer on the Board to buy Freedom Hill.

I just recently bought a share in Whataladywhatanite. I was staying away from Ill- breds since the racing here is so pathetic and Hawthorne is pretty much unwatchable. There is supposed to be a casino built.  (been going on for about five years now). They did accomplish making most of the grandstand off limits. There is now just a small part of the indoor grandstand open, a small sports book and a small area open outside around the first turn. It is a mile track, so while watching outside uo can see the horses come around the first turn and then time for binoculars. If a close race you will have no idea who won.

All depends on traffic but I am about 30-45 minutes away. I think I'll pop over on Sunday, try to watch the races and then once again vow not to return.

Two years ago I purchased two Ill-bred yearlings, about a week or two after that came the revised racing schedule which decimated the harness dates. That is why I passed last year on Ill-breds. But I made an offer and someone sold. ( I should have made a lower offer, lesson learned.
