Anthony did mention in a couple of videos there wouldn't be any buckets. I'm to lazy to go back and find the video but in one for them he mentioned a conversation with John where the buckets were described as a "mess", but nothing was brought up about how they'd be replaced.
Just my 2¢ worth but other than buying the horses I think the entire process could be executed in the client portal with minimal effort since most of the infrastructure would already be there. Instead of listing buckets have one line where "advance payments", "credits" or whatever you want to call them could be made, set a minimum buy in of $400 then allow any amount above that in increments of $100, since all the money collected from buckets went into one pool anyway. In the portal a drop down module like is used for the private sale could be created specifically for the yearling sales. The only people that could execute buys in this module would be people that made advanced payments. Once the sale is over all the horses from the sale could be listed and locked in the module as soon as the sale ends (Friday Night). Doing this would give buy in people a opportunity to evaluate the horses and plan how they want to spend the advance payment they made. Set a designated day and time to unlock the horses (ex: Sunday 11am) at that time anyone that was part of the buy in could purchase shares of any of the horses up to the amount of their advance payment. ( ex: if the New York connection made $1200 advance payment the could buy any combination of horses up to a total of $1200, they could choose for example 1-$500 horse, 1-$400 horses and 1-$300) this would all be on a first come first served basis, no more texts, emails or phone calls to Anthony. After a specified length of time anyone that was part on the buy in could purchase any of the unsold shares just like happened after all the buckets were filled, but here again this would all be done in the yearling module, then at some point any unsold shares could be moved to the Public Market.
I have no idea how this will be viewed compared to the buckets but I do know I would never send $1000 to Amazon and ask them to send me a $1000 worth the TV's of their choice.
I'll apologies in advance if I didn't make things clear, putting pencil to paper has never been my forte.
I think the problem with that model is that you could end up with people putting their money in for yearlings and not finding/selecting anything they want. Then you're left having to refund them but the money is already spent.
The buckets made sure everything put in was accounted for. Whether you wanted the horse(s) or not, you got them. And honestly, I think that was less of the problem. To me, the bigger issue with the buckets was that they were too large. I would have happily got in on a two-horse bucket, like I did the first year they did them (and ended up with Nothingbutadreamer), but I didn't want to take on 5 or 6 or 7 yearlings from a sale, then have to navigate through selling off a bunch just to get down to the number and cost that I want.
The downside is that the smaller buckets are harder for them to navigate organizationally. More buckets means more overhead (more entities created in the portal), and more work trying to fit the eventual purchases into each of the buckets.

I'm still not sure what I'm doing at this point, I don't have any horses in the fair and was mainly using that stop to break up my drive to Scioto. Part of the dilemma now is Anthony was lobbying Amy to drive Looks Like Moni in race 11 and he's listed to drive one of Jacob Baird's horses in the same race. I'm sure Anthony would love to be in the same race as Amy but that race is listed to go off at 7:30 which would make it tough to get to Scioto for Perfect Instead at 9:22, he's also listed on another Baird horse at in race 13 at 8:00. If he stays at Upper Sandusky there plenty good drivers available to drive Perfect Instead but I'm not sure I want to drive down there for that. Another wrinkle is Bella Dayle is racing at The Red Mile at 4:22, the timing would work to watch her race then still make Scioto for Perfect Instead, but that's alot of driving for me.
I wish Anthony would have given an update this evening to make the planning a little easier. I may just take the easy way out and spend the day at the fair, hopefully get to watch Amy race then come back home.

Congrats to the connections of the winners yesterday. I saw 3 at Upper Sandusky and Perfect Instead at Scioto in a maiden. Hope some of you made it to the track. Nice to see more of the fair entries with the 2 year olds. Let them come along slowly and hopefully have a good several years of production vs. get your head kicked in early by superior talent and fade to oblivion.

Pretty much had a PERFECT night last night. Met Mark, nice guy, not surprised. Getting ready for a three days/nights in Delaware. Thinking about buying a share or two of Sweet And Steady if the price is right. That was one of Anthony's best drives ever on my stock in 5-6 years of being at TheStable. I emailed him, complimented him. Did you see PERFECT'S runout after the wire? She wants more. And so do I. 🙂
