It is a sad day in harness racing.

Il Capitano has left a undeniable mark on the trotting breed.

The best horse I have seen race.

He was awesome!!! So sad. Great move by Campbell in this race. Would have worked against most. Varenne wasn't most.

Go Plesac, Illinois bred and a a long-time relief pitcher. (well the relief pitcher was Indiana bred)

It’s always sad to see a racing legend like Varenne, “Il Capitano,” pass away at 31 after such a remarkable career and long life. I’ve always found stories about iconic horses memorable because their impact goes far beyond a single race or season, and I tend to appreciate these moments more than I expect.
