Ā  Ā Norm and I can disagree in public over bourbon šŸ™‚Ā

Friend…you and I can disagree on topics, but you never piss me off. Ā Make me laugh is another story. Ā Keep it up.

Sold my two shares of homebred Radiant Traveler. Ten bucks less than I paid. Had second thoughts and after seeing the name I wanted to vomit. šŸ™‚Ā Ā

There's a story to be told here.

We'll wait.Ā  I, for one, am patient.

So long as I can sip on some tequila, I'd love to join this disagreement.

@purple-aura, I didn’t mean any ill comments, the truth is I’m fairly new at all this, and I like to learn how the rest of you choose your horses to buy or sell, currently I only own three , and only Doon is currently racing..

There is nothing I enjoy as much as reading yearling catalogues and making lists of horses I'd like haha.
I can study them from their release to the auction. Personally I have things I look for in a pedigree, I have things I will never accept in a pedigree too. Based on those I make a long list, start selecting and make the list shorter and shorter. I usually do it with a points system. (I am trying to automate it so I can get the long list with a push of a button).

Then its time to watch videos, that is more subjective. I have the "ideal" trotter or pacer in mind and judge what I see on the video with how close it gets to that. Then I'll just have to trust Anthony (Or who ever is looking at the yearling) to judge the horse in person. Confirmation is the deal breaker.Ā

Anthony's and my favourite in the Jug Sale was scratched of the list due to its confirmation.Ā
In general terms that is how it goes for me.

Woe! You really do your homework! I hear that word a lot, what exactly is confirmation?

Confirmation in its basics is how a horse stands. Is the horse toe-ed in, or toe-ed out. How straight are its legs, angles of the shoulder, length of the back. Development of the hindquarter etc.

It is difficult and very much a matter of taste and preference. Some trainers will not take any horses that aren't perfect. Some trainers will say they don't mind a toe-ed out horse but wont take a toe-ed in horse etc. I know Doc Moore X-Rays the ones he is looking at, during the auction. Benefits of being a vet.Ā
