Designing the Racetrack of the Future

That is nuts. With the increased number of races and time between races, the time commitment is beyond what most people can do. Perhaps one reason for decreased on-track attendance. Granted one does not be there for the full card.

Yes, Miami Valley is a dump, but at least they stick to 20 minutes between races, about 4.5 hours for the full card.

Maywood used to start at 8 pm, 10 races and done around 11:30. (on Fridays usually a free pre-race party, start time 6 pm) But, still time to hit the bars after the races. Eventually the starting time moved up to 7:15.

Arlington was 9 races 30-35 minutes between races so a longer day but afternoons at a very nice setting.

Hawthorne was a very industrial setting, weather not as good, but quicker time between races. Many interesting characters.

At a minimum Miami Valley and the horsemen should allocate $50 per race to pay for someone to host a between races commentary.  They could set up a little studio in the corner of the massive, boring banquet hall of a building where the “crowd” hangs out.  They can mix in handicapping, trivia, and general industry marketing, including guest interaction.  I know that versions are done elsewhere, but even in most of those instances, the productions lack imagination and entertainment value.  A knowledgeable character like AMac as an occasional guest would be great outreach.

Check out a few of the OHHA fair broadcasts this summer on Facebook or YouTube.  When they get the right blend of hosts, it is quite entertaining.

And we always blame it on dragtime.

I think if Amac was there he would have put some flip-flops up front on him and a headpole inside to help him get across the track a little faster.

LMAO!

And, scoped him!

Right now, as they turn to the starting gate, I would be interviewing our Ed about Zina’s chances.
