Jailibird Jog

PreviousPage 3 of 4Next

And now I hear, and see that Storybook Love has more money than Jailbird Jog, and with her fourth place finish has knocked out Jailbird Jog.  Oof!

It is a sad and angry feeling I have towards last night. Sadly my flights are non refundable so I guess I'm still going to New York, even though I have lost all interest in this trip.

There were 3 fillies that could ruin it for us last night, Setyoursightshigh, Nezuko Kamado S and Storybook Love. With the two breakers at the start for R Ro and Crossover I knew that Jailbird would be kicked out of the final. Maybe she'll be a A/E and someone scratches. But that was the Breeders Crown scenario too last year, and that too was a trip without seeing her race.

James misread the room in the first turn

The pace was too slow and he needed to move down the backside to the front

Great driver, bad drive.  No one else to blame sorry.

I don’t disagree.  I just don’t think they have the confidence given her race history that she can execute multiple moves or one long sustained move at this level of competition.  Heck, I don’t see any filly really standing out in this group.  Just a bunch of good ones with outstanding conditioners.  She raced fine, but the outcome is a result of not being able (or driver willing?) to dictate the terms of the race.

Will she be shipped to Kentucky for a brief R&R and then compete in the lucrative KY Stakes program?  Still a lot of opportunities ahead of her for many years to come.

She'll be racing in the first leg of the KYSS next sunday most likely.

I woke up this morning having processed the loss, I will still be going to watch the Hambo. Should still be good racing. I did look into booking it all over towards Lexington but that was impossible. Will be fun to see NYC for the first time. And yes I usually travel alone.
