Ohio Trotters and Next Generation 2026

PreviousPage 3 of 3

I would only go to the Next Generation if we have a horse in.  But, we won't.

Our two-year-olds are three NJ-bred and one NY-bred.

I will likely go if one or more of you are there to support one of yours.  My opinion
.Not a huge fan of putting a 2 year old in that position unless the pacers can pace in 1:52 range well within themselves or the trotters can trot around 1:56, again well within themselves.  And they shouldn’t be pushed to those goals but only a staging point to something greater.  Aunt Lily stole one 2 years ago with the benefit of some breaking contenders and overall fragility of baby trotters.  So one can make the argument for trying with the hope that they don’t get their morale crushed by others who are more talented.  One of you, probably Al, because he seems like our best #s person and researcher, posted that TheStable has barely broken even over the years despite winning 2 events.

Having said all of that, I will be there for you Ed!

I was planning on being there. Been there the last two years, I stop at Hoosier the night before. Company has increased the in office days, so my planned trip schedule needs retooling. This year's Next Gen was going to be part of longer trip. I'll probably still make it there, just cut out other parts of the planned trip.

Saving my vacation days for October. Red Mile stakes, Breeder's Crown elims and finals and the Breeder's Cup.

I agree with pretty much everything you said Norm. Lilly stole that race. Two year olds are pushed too early. Al is a excellent numbers guy. My only disagreement and it's slight is TheStable making making money in the Next Gen or any event we are staked too. Making money from racing and purses is pretty unlikely. There's a offer for a share of Loooooooooooooooou 900.00. I'm waiting I think it will go higher. Same with Perfect Instead, I believe there will be a eventual offer for about what I accepted on Prada. It's basic economics, buy low sell high. That's really the only way to stay even here. It won't be on the track. No one's arm is being twisted in these transactions. Anthony has stated many times if your in this to make money it probably wont happen. People want to be part of the fun. There's a percentage of those people who want to take part and buy into the better horses of TheStable. They buy just before stakes season in what is a sellers market. I have three shares of Loooooooooou and Perfect Instead. I'm probably going to sell one of each just before stake season. A couple years ago Wendy had Crantini who had a fantastic season. Made over 100k. BUT Crantini was entered in the Mohawk Million, all that profit gone just to pay the entry fee and then draw the 10 hole. Canadians are great people and some of my best friends. BUT when you draw the 10 hole leave out and get parked, suddenly not so nice, lol. Don't blame them it's racing. If I was Wendy I would have sold Crantini before the race, but Wendy wanted to race in a MILLION dollar race. I get that too. Everyone is here for different reasons. The cool part about all this is the friendships made and the camaraderie TheStable has given us. This website adds to the friendships although it seems I have to sign in now every time I'm here. Grrrr 🙂

Also todays videos. Watch the Pilot Caviar and Exquis videos. Watch Lauren on Loooooooooooooou after the wire how he trots that turn. He crushes it and opens up on the field driving thru the turn after the finish. Thank you Lauren!!!! Looooooooooou is figuring it out.

Al I hope to see you in Columbus this summer. Niek I hope to see you in Lexington with Prada this fall. Norm I might see you next weekend. I'll know more after the Miami draw for Friday. Good luck to all.

I need to figure out which horses will show potential. I stepped away from buying this year. Still kicking myself for not selling Zina and Tomboy Strong last year. I started in the Thestable,ca  buying Illinois breds, to see them race. The horses were pretty mediocre, but broke even.

Except for Im Fancy Like (Ohio bred) every other horse has been a loss. I do the buy and hold, does not work in making a profit. I'm not in this to make a profit, more for the enjoyment. But, with no Illinois racing and all the horses I buy being losers, I am slowing down my participation.

I'll still travel to watch the races, just going to cut back on buying shares.

@purple-aura You get no disagreement from me on any of your points.  I just think that AMac uses the Next Gen to create hope at the expense of the best long term racing potential of the horses.  Winning qualifiers in June generates a buzz.  So the Next Gen and what TheStable generates in interest and hope are compatible and arguably a good business decision.  Not necessarily my preference.

Agree again. A lot of this is self promotion of The Stable. Usually any pacer in the Next Gen is only there for self promotion. Hopefully Bella Dayle changes that this year. Of the Ohio stock when 90% of it is trotters the pacers are thrown to the wolves. Bella has a chance this year and I wish her the best. I kind of regret selling my share of her.

I think the Mohawk Million was a joke. We have no business being in that race. It was all about self promotion. If the Stable is lucky enough to ever have a trotter that good just buy someone else's entry.

We (The New York Connection) are contemplating an Ohio-bred two-year-old, since we don't have one.  The horse we are interested in is still available on the Public Marketplace.

After watching Anthony's videos there seems to be at least some uncertainty as to whether or not Perfect Instead will be ready to go in the Next Generation. Looking at this mornings set list I see a new and somewhat unexpected  addition to the list of horses Anthony will be going with by themselves, Dublins Ferani. Is she now being groomed to step in in the event Perfect Instead isn't ready, if that's the case would it make more sense to just sell the spot ?
