PSA: [Drivers] Fines and Suspensions
Quote from GWChrome on August 22, 2024, 1:31 PM I believe in most cases the judges are in the judges stand and do have access to video. The live stream. I've seen it run back on the livestream in a very timely manner.
I don't know if I would say it was egregious but I would say it was clear at the top of the stretch. As a matter of fact the #1 horse went inside the pylons before the start, coming to the half, and on to the finish, in the same spot. By the letter of the law, the horse should have been placed at least 2nd if not last (only watched the video once and could tell if it was more than 2 pylons).
The pylons are certainly difficult to see on the live stream video, especially on the backside, at most of the fair tracks. I don't remember a pylon violation being called at the fairs and a number of times I've seen horses scoot up the inside of the front horse going down the backstretch with no repercussions.Â
I don't know if there is an unwritten rule about not calling pylon violations at fairs (unless outlandish) but as a fan of harness racing and fair racing I would have been disappointed if there was a placing in this case.
I know the bettors (and the Charlie May fans) probably disagree with the decision but do you really think it was the difference in the outcome of the race.

Quote from Bgtolex25 on August 22, 2024, 2:19 PMI appreciate your perspective. Â I re-watched the video a couple of times and again after reading your post. Â I could clearly see at least 3 pylons that Ronnie was well inside turning for home. Â Yes, he had at least one at the same spot at the 3/8ths. Â This wasnât a case of brushing the pylon. Â There was a significant gap that I estimated as 2 feet, but I canât begin to verify that estimate. Â Usually you see one pylon infraction, and it is extremely close.
Many of the fair tracks donât even have pylons, and I have seen tires going in the grass on occasion at those venues. Â Â I never want to see another hub rail in harness racing, having seen my own family member get wrecked into, thru and over on occasion. Â
What I do know is that there were immediate emotional reactions by numerous people watching it on the OHHA stream, which led to pushback by others. Â I would much rather have the narrative being led by the officials and professionals, but nothing has been heard thus far.

I just watched the video ... it's very egregious. The winner should have been taken down. He went inside before the start, that was fine; Went inside going to the half, it didn't appear that he gained from it, but coming around the last turn, he definitely benefited. Though the betting public would get screwed, if the Judges watched the video later (assuming someone pointed the gaffe out to them), I wonder if they could have altered the finish and re-distribute the purse money.

What I do know is that there were immediate emotional reactions by numerous people watching it on the OHHA stream, which led to pushback by others. Â I would much rather have the narrative being led by the officials and professionals, but nothing has been heard thus far.
Just an update on the subject matter, not the specific race that started the conversation. Â On the OHHA Facebook feed at the Noble County Fair last night I was mildly successful at creating a brief dialogue about pylon infractions and was able to do so without it leading to vitriol and closed minded responses. Â The OHHA team still strangely quiet on the matter. Â Wait until I can get face to face at Delaware. Â

I will see how the preliminary conversations go.  I would welcome your presence if I get a warm and fuzzy feeling from OHHA.  Stay tuned.
