john@thestable.caTry as I might, I find no contact information on the website for John, although we were told that he was joining the operation in the Fall of 2024. So at least we now have an email contact if one is inclined to pursue business operations questions.
I'll keep this brief, I understand the need for the surcharge but wasn't impressed with the email.
1) He wrote of transparency but yet the the email was sent the day after April's invoices came out with the surcharge already included.
2) The $.19 a share surcharge he used as an example is a lowball number, the surcharge just from First Line to Mohawk was greater than that.
I hope this isn't just the beginning.

I agree with you on the timing of the announcement.
I guess they're calling it a "surcharge" rather than increasing the charges, so that when the price of gas comes down, they can remove the surcharge, rather than make it a permanent increase. At least, I hope that I am right.

Quote from Purple Aura on May 13, 2026, 12:39 PMGreat points Mark. Boitano looked good, but Anthony driving against most these people it's like ( Seinfeld reference) Kramer fighting in the dojo. Makes him look better than he is? Still not sure about Calgary Games as a sire.

I like Boitano a little bit, I'm not sure it's enough to buy. Any reason to visit my friend Norm in KY is a plus though.
First, I defer to Niek on the sire, Calgary Games. But I did take pause when looking at Boitano’s pedigree. He is 4x3x4 to the sire, Valley Victory, which is heavy on family familiarity…even for us Kentuckians. Some don’t worry about any line breeding going to the 4th generation, but I suspect most do. Otherwise, we would see it more often.
How is he looking on the training videos? Still 1 share left on the public side at a reasonable price. The time to buy is now if he looks ok. AMac will get him a decent qualifier, and then you can flip him for a profit to the optimist club members.
BTW,Just the love of horses, and what the Bluegrass state has to offer, is more than enough reason for a visit!

Quote from NiekH on May 14, 2026, 4:29 AMCalgary Games
Lets talk about him. Trained by Timo Nurmos one of the best trainers in Sweden his career was more like a thoroughbred. Short but effective. Calgary Games did not race at 2, he raced only 3 times at 3. But he won all 3 starts. In the elimination of the Svenskt Trav-Kriterium(The biggest 3yo stake in Sweden) he was scratched with a hoof abscess. We would not see him back on track until his 4yo season. But what a season that was with 6 wins from 6 starts. Winning the Svenskt Travderby (Biggest 4yo stake in Sweden) and the UET Grand Prix (Biggest 4yo stake in Europe, basically the European Championship). Late into his 5yo season they went to the winter in Paris to attempt the Prix d'Amerique. However in his first start at Vincennes he made a break and that was it. The end of his racing career followed not long after. He won 10 out of 11 starts and made $717,000.
His sire Readly Express is one of the best horses to come out of Sweden since Maharajah. He also comes from the Timo Nurmos barn. At 3 he won the Svenskt Trav-Kriterium and was 2nd in the Breeders Crown final. At 4, he won the Svenskt Travderby and the UET Grand Prix. (Starting to see a familiar game plan here). And as a aged horse he also went to Paris. Where he won the Prix d'Amerique, Prix de France, Grand Critérium de Vitesse and Prix Ténor de Baune. Other stake wins around Europe include the Jubileumspokalen, Finlandia-Ajo, European Championship for 5 year olds and even a heat of the Elitloppet.
Back to Calgary Games, his dam also produced Fame And Glory (Tactical Landing) who for Timo Nurmos also won the Svenskt Trav-Kriterium and the Svenskt Travderby among others. Winning 10 out of 14 starts so far.
Calgary Games' first crop hit the track in 2025. The highest earner was Busy Miss Lissy S with $201,328 who won the Kindergarten, was 2nd in the International Stallion Stakes and 3rd in the Goldsmith Maid for Ake Svanstedt. But his biggest talent seemed to be Cruiser. She won the final of the Breeders Course for 2yo fillies among a few other stakes. She remains unbeaten now in 5 starts. Another talented filly is Icy Conditions who came back great as a 3yo and is now undefeated this year in 5 starts.
All in all Calgary Games seems to be a promising stud. He sure was talented on track and his progeny seems to be the same. Any more questions, let me know 🙂

Quote from Purple Aura on May 14, 2026, 6:59 PMOutstanding. Thanks both of you. Norm I agree with your Valley Victory/family assessment. I also like Pine Chip in there too. Boitano was sold out, but there's a share available for not much over the buy in. Thanks Norm.
Niek, great run down. Your Euro knowledge is fantastic here. You've made this site a better place. Thanks Niek.
Going to email A Mac and if that share is still available make my decision. Niek if you end up in Lexington this fall the first drink is on me. Norm will buy the second round. Better stop there, have to get back to the hotel 🙂 Thanks both of you.
