The Red Mile

PreviousPage 9 of 11Next

Tell me if I'm piecing this together incorrectly. Remember a few months ago when Zina in her second start was parked the mile in a maiden race at Oak Grove? Was the guy who parked her with a 4yo Tony Dinges?

Next step, Tony Dinges is listed as trainer on quite a few fairly nice bred horses at the Red Mile. I remember reading a few weeks ago here that Alagna was busted in the trainer thread fines and suspensions. These horses that Dinges is listed on look like Alagna horses to me??? Dinges has never had this many horses at the Red Mile. Had anyone ever heard of this guy before parking Zina? Am i way off??

Careful Ed.  Tony has a strong presence in KY.  Not sure specifically which horses are in question, but “Nash”, who just won in Race 9, has been campaigned by Dinges all year.  He also sold a very well raced 3 year old pacer (Captain Artrovicious or something close to that name) to Burke this summer, who subsequently finished 2nd in KSS final to Sippononsearoc.  Dinges is for real.  He is all over the KY scene.

Nevertheless, anxious to see why Alagna is still racing today at the Red Mile.  Maybe I have my dates wrong, but I thought he had to be gone.  Did he get an injunction, which we only find out about after the fact.

I sure wish the sport had independent journalism, so we could find out in real time.

Fair enough. I'm pretty sure he's the guy who parked Zina, so I still don't like him. Didn't really know of him, thanks for the knowledge. As far as Alagna goes, I agree why is he listed?

Good luck Degas.  Sitting on my deck in Frankfort and watching on RTN.  Dang it if she wins again, and I am not there to greet Dex in the winner’s circle.  Ed, tell Wendy that I am riding with her.

Degus … I guess it has some plausibility because it is similar to Vegas (Vegus)

Jumped it off.  And the beat goes on to the end of dawn.

🎬 Take 2.  Tony Dinges does appear to be a decent regional trainer, hovering around .270 UDR with just under 300 starts YTD. However, my mind continues to mix up the facts, as the nice Captain Arturovico gelding was conditioned by another KY trainer, Rodney Debeck.  Mr. Debeck really caught my eye during the early fair circuit when he seemingly won everything.  This all started swirling in my brain around 3 am…Stupid brain.  Sorry for the misinformation.  I will dig into the Alagna suspension dates a little deeper.

He must have appealed and requested a stay.  Sure wish that I understood the medication game better.  Most of theses offenses seem to be for permitted medications, but are testing above the race day threshold.

There's a Ohio bred selling the last day. This filly is named after my favorite Who song ever. Pictures Of Lilly. If he buys that filly on principle alone i'm buying a share.

Jailbird Jog finally returned to her winning ways.  1:52.2 in a division of the Bluegrass.  Congratulations to Eric, Cathy, James and the owners.  Good to see Cathy make it to the winner’s circle, albeit still in the boot.

BTW, Alagna did file an appeal and was granted a stay in having penalties assessed.  A conspiracy theorist might speculate that the entire timing sequence was worked out to allow him to eventually serve his punishment when he would already be gone from the Commonwealth.  Just a little too convenient if you carefully follow the timeline.
