Were not likely to go to the Breeder's Crown this year. Next year we go together!!

Breeder's double header this year. Crown at Scioto and Cup the following weekend in Lexington.

A couple of photos from upstairs at The Red Mile on Sunday.  The first is the photo finish tech pulling up a finished, enlarged look at a dead heat outcome.  The judges are on the other side of the wall watching the process on a large screen monitor and making the verdict.

The other photo is of the 4 staff in the judges room.  Presiding Judge on right, staff that posts the race order on the TV monitors, and the two associate judges.  Standing on the left and watching with binoculars as field goes down backside is Hall of Famer, Dave Magee.  Al is probably most familiar with his driving in the Chicago area.

This is amazing!  I had no idea how rigurous the judging is.  Does every track have that many employees?

This should be publicized how well scrutinized each race is. I would feel more empowered knowing that racing is so well protected.

Thank you for sharing!

Yes, familiar with Dave Magee.

I actually met him last year at Corbin.

My second day there a lady came up to me and asked if i was an owner or trainer. Stating the judges noticed me being there for two days (second day there were less than 10 fans, first day maybe 20). I said no just a fan. She asked if I wanted to meet the judges. I went into the booth. One of the judges was from Minnesota, from pic does not look he is at The Red Mile. When he found out I was from the Chicago area, he stated you must know Dave Magee. I felt like an idiot not recognizing him.

Casey Larson is the Presiding Judge, sitting on right in photo.  He was up in MN at Running Aces, so it probably was him.  Last year was his first in KY.  Jeff James is the other associate along with Dave Magee.  Ed likely saw a great deal of Jeff’s driving up in Michigan.

That was a cool move by the Corbin people bringing you to the judges stand.  When I was up at Hilliard, Ohio this summer shadowing their team, one of the associates went around to the people in the stands and invited them in for a behind the scenes look.  That gesture really had an impact on the people who took advantage of the opportunity.  The Red Mile management did a similar thing this past Sunday evening.

Need to check my glasses. Yes, that looks like the guy I met last year.

Lots of Jeff James stories. Have the statue of limitations past? You know the James family owned Albatross, right?
